High Magnitude Earthquake Recorded in Eastern Samar Province of Philippines
An earthquake measuring 5.1 Magnitude on Richter scale hit eastern Samar province of the Philippines. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the epicenter of the quake occurred 13 km northeast of General MacArthur Municipality in Samar Province, at a depth of 75 Km.
There were no reports of casualties or material loses. On July 27, an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck the northern Philippines province of Abra, killing more than nine people and injuring hundreds. The Philippines is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where about 90 percent of the world's earthquakes occur.
