A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed during takeoff in Ahmedabad, a major city in western India, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, according to fire service officials who spoke to AFP. Details surrounding the cause of the crash and the number of casualties remain unconfirmed at this time.

Eyewitnesses and media reports described large clouds of thick, black smoke billowing over the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport following the incident.

Local media indicated the aircraft belonged to Air India and was en route to London Gatwick. It was reportedly carrying 242 passengers when the accident occurred shortly after takeoff.

Social media platforms have been flooded with video footage showing dark smoke rising into the sky, but official statements regarding potential injuries or fatalities have yet to be released.
