Qatar University
Qatar University (QU) prepares to host a number of international football teams throughout the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The Argentinian and Spanish teams will be staying in the university campus.
QU President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham says, “The University is currently preparing to host the Argentina and Spanish team, who have both selected the Qatar University campus to be their choice of residence during the upcoming World Cup. The University hosts a number of distinguished sports facilities built in accordance with international and Olympic specifications, in addition to residential units equipped with the latest systems, in accordance with health and safety requirements.”
He adds, “The University’s campus has world-class infrastructure and we are delighted and honored to contribute to the success of the World Cup and demonstrate the country’s ability, and the institutions and its energy, in organizing this world class event, which will be a truly memorable period.”
QU has three open sports complexes that offer the opportunity to play outdoor sports, as well as a closed indoor space for women. These facilities include gyms and host multiple sports including football, volleyball, handball, basketball, tennis, swimming, water polo and squash.
One of the most prominent of these facilities is the QU Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium built to international and Olympic specifications, which can hold up to 10,000 spectators and is commonly used for football matches and athletics events of the university.
