Ashghal announces major infrastructure projects under five year strategy

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has unveiled a comprehensive five-year infrastructure development plan, with a projected investment of approximately QR81 billion. Salem Al-Shawi Al-Marri, Director of Ashghal’s Road Projects Department, highlighted the key components and national benefits of the planned projects.

The initiative aims to provide essential infrastructure services to over 5,500 land plots across the northern, western, and southern regions of Doha. These projects will encompass the installation of rainwater drainage systems, sewage networks, street lighting, irrigation and landscaping works, as well as water and electricity networks. Particular emphasis will be placed on enhancing road safety in proximity to schools and healthcare facilities within these communities.

In addition to residential infrastructure, the plan includes the construction of schools, healthcare centers, and government buildings to support vital public services. To improve the city’s drainage capacity, Ashghal will undertake the construction of two major rainwater tunnels located in the northern and southern parts of Doha.

The strategy also promotes public-private partnerships, encouraging collaboration with the private sector to develop infrastructure in newly planned residential areas. Preparations are underway to implement Phase Two of the Wakra and Al Wukair Wastewater Treatment Plant project through a similar partnership model.

Director Al-Marri affirmed that all projects will be executed in accordance with the highest international standards, ensuring quality, safety, and environmental sustainability. These efforts are expected to enhance connectivity between residential areas and major road networks, contributing significantly to the advancement of Qatar’s infrastructure.
