Ashghal Announces an Increase in Qatarization Rate
The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' announces that the number of Qatari employees in the authority has more than doubled over the past 4 years with an increase of 135%.
The number of Qatari engineers has also increased up to 163%. There are currently 425 Qatari engineers in Ashghal who are employed with a scholarship or as a replacement / Qatarization plan followed by Ashghal in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The Authority is making great efforts to increase the Qatarization percentage.
Saif Ali Al Kaabi, Manager of Human Resources Department, stated that one of 'Ashghal's' strategic goals is to increase the number of qualified Qatari employees and develop their capabilities and competencies through our development and training programs. He explained that the authority's role extends beyond constructing roads, bridges, drainage networks, and governmental establishments buildings; but it also responsible of developing the capabilities of Qatari employees, training and qualifying them to be able to manage and operate these assets and increase their efficiency.
Qatari employees are a key element in 'Ashghal' and its future leaders. During the past few years, 'Ashghal' has focused on relying on Qatari competencies and reducing the dependency on foreign expertise. Additionally, Ashghal dedicates special efforts to provide employment opportunities and a suitable work environment for Qatari employees.
Sheikha Ahmed Basahal, Head of Training & Organizational Development Section, said:" In regard to the great role played by the Public Works Authority in job Qatarization and in line with the objectives of the country's replacement and resettlement policy, the Training & Organizational Development Section has become one of the main pillars in supporting and accomplishing this policy. The section works on developing practical training plans for the Qatari employee to ensure the transfer of knowledge during the pre-specified replacement period. Also, 'Ashghal' paid great attention to the training and career development of its employees, as several training programs and plans were prepared for the development of Qatari employees at all levels of employment, which are ranging between 24-36 months, including:
The leadership development program for those in supervisory positions, project management program, which is designed to develop the capabilities of newly graduated Qatari engineers, the career succession program, which is a program designed to qualify a second row of Qatari leaders to occupy leadership positions in 'Ashghal' in the future, the graduate development program, which is designed to develop new graduates (non-engineers), and the Administrative Jobs Development Program, which is designed to develop clerical jobs. As well as personal development plans designed to develop the skills and capabilities of Qataris.
These programs are designed to develop functional competencies and qualify the various Qatari cadres to be capable of taking the responsibility. This is in addition to sending many students to study abord in variety fields such as (engineering, administration, computer science, project management, law). As well as providing summer training opportunities for school and university students".
