During the World Cup, the D'reesha festival will exhibit Qatari and regional artistic talent
During the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Qatar Foundation's D'reesha Performing Arts Festival will highlight the skills of young innovative artists from Qatar and the region to worldwide audiences.
The second edition of D'reesha will take place from December 11 to 18 at the Education City Oxygen Park, with the goal of discovering talent in sectors ranging from arts, theater, music, and poetry to storytelling, education, science, and research.
âDâreesha reflects the love of art, and the countryâs aspirations to be a centre for arts and culture,â said Ameera Al Aji, Community Arts Lead at QF and a member of the D'reesha organizing team.Â
âIt aims to engage a new generation to make performance and artistic expression part of their lives and continue the artistic legacy that has passed through Qatarâs history. We are very excited to be organising this yearâs edition of the Dâreesha Performing Arts Festival in the run-up to and during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which will win the hearts and minds of new global audiences,â she added. Â
One of the important components of QF's community development focus is its dedication to promoting, protecting, celebrating, and reinforcing Qatar's and the Arab world's distinctive identity and spirit by fusing tradition with modernity.
According to Al Aji, QF's D'reesha Festival represents this by allowing young people from all around Qatar to express their curiosity, creativity, and originality, therefore supporting their drive for learning.Â
âThis yearâs festival will look to highlight the main theme of âTravel and Adventureâ, focusing on the fundamental roots of the Arab world and its culture, promoting, preserving, and celebrating the regionâs identity and spirit, combining tradition and modernity for a unique and educational experience. And this will be reflected through the festival in the fields of performances, arts, culture, invention, and innovation,â she said.Â
D'reesha takes an interdisciplinary approach, merging science, research, education, and society, according to Al Aji, and the festival highlights how QF's Education City is a knowledge center that fosters lifelong learning and inquiry. âDâreesha will provide youth with the opportunity to present performances in a variety of forms, which will enable people to learn more about Qatarâs rich culture, heritage, and traditions,â she added.
âOur youth has a great deal of potential in the performing arts, and there is a need for platforms that allow these talents to be absorbed and demonstrated, either as groups or individuals. Through Dâreesha, we want to provide such a space for young people to express themselves in creative ways, revive the various performing arts, empower creative energies in Qatar and the region, and enrich the creativity of the Arab world," she added. Registration to enroll as a performer closes on September 11.
