FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, a celebration of the Global South

Hassan al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), stated at the 2023 Global Security Summit that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was seen as a celebration of the Global South. Many misconceptions about the Arab world were dispelled by the World Cup 2022, and "in particular, dare I say I think it was much more a celebration of the Global South," he said on Wednesday.

In addition, Al Thawadi noted that African countries had a "very strong" and noticeable presence during the month-long competition: "People from Senegal, Ghana, and Cameroon were regularly spotted in the stadiums supporting their teams."
