A new scam has emerged in Qatar, targeting residents with fraudulent text messages falsely claiming to be from the Ministry of Interior (MOI). The messages warn recipients of an unpaid traffic fine and pressure them to make immediate payments through suspicious links — a clear phishing attempt designed to steal personal and financial information.
Over the past few days, several residents have reported receiving identical SMS messages containing a fine number (No. 5964), urging them to pay via deceptive URLs such as https://moi-lookup.top, https://hukoomma-moi.top, and https://moi-dashboard.top. The messages claim additional fees will be incurred if the fine is not paid promptly.
Upon clicking the link, users are directed to a fake website styled to mimic the official MOI portal, complete with the MOI logo, Qatar emblem, and even a fabricated violation page. The false violation page displays a fine for "The driver does not obey traffic laws," with a listed amount of QAR 60 and a violation date in April 2025.
Despite the convincing appearance, authorities have confirmed that these messages are not from the Ministry of Interior and have advised the public to remain vigilant.
