Pre-launch event to celebrate Lusail Speed Fest held at Msheireb
On February 22, motorsport enthusiasts gathered at Barahat in Msheireb for an exhilarating pre-launch event hosted by Lusail International Circuit (LIC) to mark the upcoming Lusail Speed Fest.
The cutting-edge circuit is set to host a motorsport extravaganza, including the Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 KM - FIA World Endurance Championship 2024 and the 2024 MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar over two consecutive weekends, commencing on February 29. LIC's recent event at Msheireb showcased interactive experiences, family-friendly activities, advanced simulators, and a diverse range of engaging attractions.
The occasion featured a notable panel of speakers, with Porsche Penske's accomplished Matt Campbell and inspirational female drivers from the Iron Dames taking the spotlight. Engaging discussions unfolded on the evolving landscape of motorsport, emphasizing the growing awareness and participation of women and girls in the World Endurance Championship.
Beyond captivating attendees with exciting attractions, the event facilitated meaningful conversations at the intersection of innovation, diversity, and motorsport excellence. The drivers expressed their excitement about launching the season in Doha, anticipating a fiercely competitive race at the iconic Lusail International Circuit.
Sarah Bovy, a driver from the Iron Dames, expressed her enthusiasm about being in Qatar for the first time and enjoying the city of Doha. She looks forward to having more opportunities to interact with locals and explore the city further. Regarding the Lusail circuit, which is new in the world of endurance racing, she mentioned that there are limited references, with only Formula 1 races and onboard experiences as points of comparison. Despite the differences in driving a GT car, she appreciates the circuit's fast feel, making the overall experience enjoyable.
Amro Al-Hamad, the Executive Director of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and CEO of LIC, emphasized that Lusail Speed Fest is set to be an extraordinary event spanning two consecutive weekends. He described the festival as a celebration of speed and excitement, highlighting that motorsport in Qatar is not just a sport but a passion deeply rooted in the country's culture. Anticipating an exhilarating month ahead, he encourages everyone to participate.
Tickets for Lusail Speed Fest, covering the Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 KM - FIA World Endurance Championship 2024 (February 29 to March 2) and the 2024 MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar (March 8 to 10), are currently available for QAR 200.
