Foreign Minister's Special Envoy Meets EU Officials

HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, met separately today during his current visit to Brussels, with HE Director of the Asia and Pacific Department, Head of the team on the evacuation operation from Afghanistan Paola Pampaloni, HE Director of the Middle East and North African Affairs Department Fernando Gentilini, HE Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European Commission Helena Konig, and HE Head of Cabinet of the Vice-President of the Commission, the High Representative for Political Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Pedro Serrano.

During the meetings, bilateral cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and the European Union were reviewed.

His Excellency discussed with European officials the political and security situation in Afghanistan, and stressed the need to keep channels of communication open with the caretaker government, and to continue providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

His Excellency noted the need to unify the efforts of the international community towards the stability and prosperity of Afghanistan, especially during this critical stage in the country's history.

For their part, the European officials expressed their thanks and appreciation to the State of Qatar for its continuous and active role in the Afghan issue, and for its efforts to evacuate and provide safe passage from Kabul.
