The General Directorate of Traffic has issued a warning about the legal repercussions of unauthorized individuals capturing photos of accidents. Speaking on Qatar TV, Capt Khalid Abdullah al-Kuwari, Traffic Investigation Officer at the General Traffic Department, emphasized that taking such photos can result in imprisonment and fines.

According to Article 333 of the Penal Code, anyone who intrudes into another person’s private life without permission may face up to two years in prison and/or a fine of up to QR10,000.

Capt al-Kuwari clarified that the law permits individuals involved in a traffic accident to take photos and upload them on Metrash 2 for the purpose of proving and documenting the incident.

He further explained that even with good intentions, filming an accident to raise awareness could lead to legal consequences, as it may cause harm to the victims due to injuries or fatalities.

Capt al-Kuwari also pointed out that there are dedicated organizations, such as the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior and the Traffic Awareness and Safety Department of the General Directorate of Traffic, responsible for raising awareness.

He added that when reporting a traffic violation via Metrash, there is no need to photograph people; it is sufficient to capture the license plate and the damage to the vehicle, after which traffic investigators will follow up to determine the cause of the accident.
