Washington, July 02, 2026: Google has expanded its Gemini Spark AI agent to Mac users, intensifying competition among desktop AI assistants.
A New Layer for the Gemini Desktop App
Gemini Spark now runs inside the Gemini desktop app on macOS. The assistant can track topics in real time and connect with more Google apps, including Google Tasks and Google Keep.
Working Directly With Files on Your Mac
The update lets Gemini Spark access files stored locally on a Mac. Users can organize these files and turn them into documents or spreadsheets inside Google Workspace.
As one example, Google pointed to converting a stack of saved invoices into an automatically generated budget tracking sheet.
Limited Rollout for Now
The Mac version remains in beta and is currently available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers based in the United States. Wider availability has not yet been announced.
Real Time Tracking Across Topics
Gemini Spark also picked up a feature that follows live events as they unfold. This includes sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, and weather updates, giving the assistant a more dynamic, always-on feel.
Opening Up Through MCP Support
Google confirmed that Gemini Spark now supports the Model Context Protocol, a standard that lets different applications connect directly with the assistant. This allows developers and users to customize how Gemini Spark behaves across their own tools and workflows.
