Doha, November 23 (QNA) - HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed voiced his pride in the World Trade Organization's (WTO) selection of the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) to host the WTO Chair in Qatar, stressing that this step represents a qualitative addition to the academic and research landscape in the State of Qatar, and reflects the confidence of international institutions in national capabilities and the supportive environment for research and innovation provided by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

This came during His Excellency's participation in the inauguration ceremony of the WTO Chair in Qatar, which was organized by HBKU in Education City, in the presence of a number of academic leaders, representatives of international organizations, and a select group of researchers and students.

His Excellency indicated that HBKU's joining the WTO Chairs Program represents a pivotal moment in the State of Qatar's journey toward strengthening its role as an active contributor to shaping the future of global trade, through supporting specialized research on international and digital trade issues and industrial policies, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030).

His Excellency added that this achievement highlights the importance of strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions, government agencies, and international organizations to develop knowledge-based and research-driven trade policies, thereby contributing to enhancing national research capabilities and enabling young Qatari talents to contribute effectively to addressing global economic challenges.

He stressed that the WTO Chairs Program is a strategic platform for exchanging experiences, developing trade policies, supporting countries' efforts to achieve economic diversification, and taking advantage of global transformations in the areas of digital economy, innovation and trade integration, which contributes to building a competitive and sustainable knowledge-based national economy.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs concluded his remarks by congratulating HBKU on this prestigious academic achievement, praising the efforts of the academics at the university, and expressing his thanks and appreciation to all local and international partners who contributed to the success of this initiative.
