Sword Festival
The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) announced on Sunday evening the details of HH the Amir Sword Festival for horse racing, to be held at Al Rayyan racecourse February 16 -18.
In a press conference held Sunday evening, QREC Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi confirmed that preparations for HH the Amir Sword Festival are all set, describing the race as the largest and most important in the current season, indicating that the race's technical arrangements have been completed.
Al Mohannadi stressed that the 2023 edition is of great significance at the level of horse racing in the region, due to the high percentage of foreign participation with horses belonging to stables with a history of racing on the largest international racetracks, urging the public to attend and enjoy this great festival, pointing to the increase in the value of the financial prizes.
QREC Chairman continued that such financial prizes are unprecedented in the history of the club, reaching USD 10 million, twice what they were before, which contributed to the increasing demand for participation from abroad, describing it as a great gain for Qatari equestrian.
He added that the number of horses participating from abroad reached 24 horses, classified as Group 1, from countries such as France, the UK, Ireland, the UAE, and Hong Kong.
Al Mohannadi pointed out that there will be participation from the Godolphin stud, one of the worlds most renowned, in addition to a number of the worlds most famous senior coaches in attendance, such as Coach Aidan O'Brien.
QREC Chairman explained that foreign participation will be in various races, including HH the Amir Sword, HH the Amir Trophy, Al Rayyan Mile, the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cup, and Dukhan Sprint, amongst others.
Al Mohannadi said that the largest horse owners in Qatar will also take part, making the competition even greater.
