Legal Procedures for Renewing a Driver's License Online in Qatar
As per the regulations set by the Ministry of Interior (MOI) of Qatar, the process for renewing a driving license is a convenient and streamlined procedure available online through the official government portals.
Below is a detailed overview of the legal requirements, steps, and associated fees involved in renewing it.
 

Eligibility for Renewal
Qatari citizens are eligible for a 10-year license renewal, while residents are eligible for 5-year renewals. The renewal can be requested up to six months before the license expiry date. It is crucial that individuals meet the eligibility criteria, which include having an active driving license and complying with traffic regulations.
 

Online Renewal Process
To renew the license online, you must complete the following steps via the Ministry of Interior’s website or through the Metrash2 mobile application:

1. Access the Online Portal: The first step is to visit the official Ministry of Interior (MOI) website or access the Metrash2 app, both of which provide access to the renewal service.
2. Login to the Portal: Log in with your registered account. If you don’t have an account, you will need to create one.
3. Select Traffic Services: Upon logging in, select "Traffic Services" and then choose the  "Renew Driving License" option from the available list of services.
4. Review and Confirm License Details: The system will display your existing driving license details for confirmation. Review these details to ensure accuracy.
5. Payment of Fees: The renewal fees are as follows:
   • Qatari citizens: QR 500 for private light vehicles and QR 300 for Motorcycle - for a 10 year renewal.
   • Residents: QR 250 for private light vehicles and QR 150 for Motorcycle - for a 5 year renewal.
   • QR 20 delivery fee applies for those opting to have the license delivered via QPost.
6. Choose Delivery Option: After payment, you can select your preferred delivery method, either through QPost or by picking up the license at the Traffic Department.

Legal Requirements and Notes

• No medical test is generally required for renewing the license unless specified by the authorities, such as for senior citizens or individuals with specific medical conditions.
• Renewals must be completed within six months before or immediately after the expiration date to avoid penalties. As per Law no. (19) of 2007, a grace period of 30 days is granted from the expiration date. After this period, penalties will be applied.
• Late renewal may incur a fine, and you could even face legal consequences if driving with an expired license.
