Hezbollah Reports 20 Members Killed Shortly After Walkie Talkie Explosions
Lebanon's Hezbollah reported that 20 of its members were killed, with a source close to the group telling AFP on Thursday that they died in walkie-talkie explosions allegedly caused by Israel the previous day.
Between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, the group issued separate death notices for each member, stating they had died "on the road to Jerusalem" – a phrase Hezbollah uses to describe fighters killed by Israel.
"The 20 Hezbollah members were killed by walkie-talkie explosions" across Lebanon on Wednesday, the source told AFP, requesting anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the information.
Earlier on Wednesday, the health ministry reported that a second wave of explosions involving electronic devices in Hezbollah strongholds killed 20 people and injured more than 450.
These blasts followed a Tuesday incident where pagers used by Hezbollah were simultaneously detonated, killing 12 people, including two children, and injuring up to 2,800 others across Lebanon, in a rare attack blamed on Israel.
Israel has not commented on the events.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is expected to deliver his first televised address regarding the attacks on Thursday afternoon.
