AMMAN โ Jordan's Armed Forces said Monday they had intercepted four missiles launched from Iran toward the kingdom, with no casualties or property damage reported, as regional tensions tied to the broader US-Iran conflict continued to escalate.
A military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces said the missiles were intercepted successfully after entering Jordanian airspace from Iranian territory early Monday. Royal Engineering Corps teams cleared debris that fell at several locations across the country, the Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported. The source said the Armed Forces remained on high alert and were closely monitoring developments, warning that any violation of Jordan's sovereignty would be met with a firm response.
A Pattern of Repeated Incursions
Monday's interception follows a similar incident just a day earlier: Jordan had announced on Sunday that three missiles launched from Iran fell at several locations inside the country, also causing no casualties and only minor material damage. The kingdom has faced repeated incursions since the intensification of regional hostilities in late February, with Jordanian forces reported to have successfully neutralized the large majority of Iranian projectiles aimed at the country over that period.
Jordan has been drawn into the conflict in part because of the Muwaffaq Salti airbase, also known as Azraq, which has hosted US and allied forces. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has previously claimed strikes on the base and on a US command-and-control facility in the country in retaliation for American strikes on Iranian territory.
Wider Regional Escalation
Jordan's interception came the same day Bahrain activated nationwide warning sirens, urging citizens and residents to seek shelter following attacks linked to Iran's targeting of US interests in Arab Gulf states. Bahrain's Defense Force said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missiles and drones targeting the kingdom. The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait have also announced that their forces intercepted Iranian missile and drone attacks directed toward their territories, while the US military reported downing Iranian aerial threats targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The escalation marks a widening of the US-Iran conflict beyond the Gulf states directly involved in hosting American military assets, pulling in a broader set of regional partners as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's retaliatory strikes continue to intensify.
This is a developing story and will be updated as the situation evolves.
