Doha, Qatar: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has announced revised mechanisms and procedures for the installation and operation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The update emphasizes that prior approval through the Kahramaa Service Package System (KMSP) is mandatory, and no installation may begin without official consultation and authorization from Kahramaa.
The updated procedures apply to all sectors — including government agencies, private companies, and residential properties. Applications must be submitted by certified electrical contractors and accompanied by necessary documents such as no-objection letters from relevant authorities, site plans, and a commitment to connect the charger to Kahramaa’s smart platform.
For residential properties, only alternating current (AC) chargers with a maximum capacity of 22 kilowatts are permitted. The property owner is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the charger. Kahramaa also highlighted that all charging units must be connected to its smart platform after installation and must comply with safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.
Eng. Rashid Al-Rahimi, Director of Kahramaa’s Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, said the updated procedures reflect Kahramaa’s commitment to promoting sustainable electric mobility and maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. He urged all stakeholders to adhere to the new regulations in support of community welfare and sustainability goals.
