MOCI Reports 81 Violations in July

 

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) reported 81 trade violations in July, due to intensive inspection campaigns on markets and shops in various areas of the state.

In a statement on Monday, MOCI explained that in the past month of July, the ministry carried out intensive inspection campaigns to oversee to what degree shops' suppliers are complying with the obligations they are required to commit to - as stipulated in the laws and ministerial decisions that are concerned with consumer protection, within the framework of keenness to observe the markets and trade activities in the country with the aim of controlling prices and detecting violations, to protect the consumers' rights.

MOCI stated that the violations included displaying expired products, not announcing the prices of goods, and the supplier's failure to guarantee the service they provide within a period of time commensurate with the nature of the service, in addition to not returning the amount paid by the recipient of the service in the correct manner.

The violations also included non-compliance with the mandatory bulletin prices for vegetables and fruits, failure to issue invoices in Arabic, and making discounts without obtaining the necessary license from the competent department.

The ministry pointed out that the penalties for violating stores range from administrative closure and financial fines between QR 5,000 to QR 30,000, in accordance with the laws and decisions regulating the work of the Consumer Protection Department.

MOCI also said that the authorities concerned with consumer protection in the ministry received a number of complaints during the month of July, which have been dealt with - as the necessary measure were taken to resolve them.

The ministry stressed that it will continue intensifying its inspection campaigns to seize those who neglect or violate the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations, adding that those who violate will be referred to the competent authorities to take appropriate measures against them, in order to protect the rights of consumers.
