According to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), eight fake undergraduate and graduate degrees were found in the first half of this year and the previous year.
The Ministry's Director of the University Degree Equivalency Department, Jaber Ahmed Al-Jaber, informed the local daily Al Sharq that five examples of counterfeit diplomas were discovered last year, and three cases were found in the first half of 2025.
Among these were fake doctorate, master's, and bachelor's degrees, the majority of which were from Arab nations.
According to Al-Jaber, a forged certificate is one that differs in content or issuance from the official records of the educational institution that issued it. Â This might be the result of unauthorised changes or additions, such deletions or additions, undertaken without the institution's knowledge or consent.
"We have received reports of forgery ranging from the alteration of a single letter or word to the complete fabrication of a certificate, where the university denies both the student’s registration and the issuance of the certificate," he stated to Al Sharq.
In order to confirm the legitimacy of certificates and papers, he continued, the department collaborates with government agencies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the nation's cultural attachés.  The matter is forwarded to the Ministry's Legal Affairs Department for additional action if a university certifies that a certificate may have been falsified.
