After the midterm break, more than 380,000 students are set to return to 1,122 government and private schools and kindergartens tomorrow.
Today, schools are opening their doors for teachers to make preparations for the students' return, with notifications sent to parents via text messages regarding the reopening.
A government primary school shared in a message to parents, "On the occasion of the approaching end of the mid-term school holidays, we are pleased to remind you of the date for the resumption of schools for the second semester of this year, which is Monday (January 8, 2024)."
According to the message, the school hours will be from 7 am to 12:45 pm, except on Thursdays when it will end at 12:30 pm.Meanwhile, a government secondary school outlined its schedule from 7 am to 1:25 pm from Sunday to Tuesday and from 7 am to 12:40 pm on Wednesday and Thursday.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Al Nuaimi, highlighted the commitment to providing qualified teachers and sufficient modern facilities for quality education.He noted that the total number of students from KG to grade 12 is approximately 380,000, with an additional 40,000 students in universities and higher education institutions.
The government schools have reached a count of 214, enrolling 136,601 students for the academic year 2023-24. These schools are served by 14,648 qualified teachers, and there are 63 government kindergartens in operation.
Al Nuaimi mentioned that the number of private schools has increased to 230, enrolling 236,448 students in the current academic year. Over 14,000 teachers are employed by private schools, which also include 115 private kindergartens.
He highlighted a pilot project for enrolling students at the '3-year-old' level in public kindergartens for the academic year 2023-24. This project is expected to expand to remaining government kindergartens in the next academic year.
Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of education as a top priority aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, contributing to human development and creating an environment that fosters innovation and quality education. He mentioned that the strategic plan includes various programs and initiatives aimed at improving the educational sector in the country in the coming years.
