The National Planning Council (NPC), in partnership with Microsoft, launched the inaugural Qatar Datathon 2025 at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) yesterday. Running until February 22, the event aims to unite data science professionals from across Qatar.
Ahmed Al Obaidly, Director General of the National Statistics Center, highlighted the initiative's role in empowering national efforts to improve data and update the country's statistics portfolio. He stressed the importance of data in shaping Qatar’s future and advancing decision-making through technology.
The competition brings together university students, recent graduates, and data science professionals, offering a platform to showcase skills, connect with industry experts, and explore career opportunities with NPC’s National Statistics Center. Participants will address challenges related to population, education, the labor market, safety, healthcare, and sustainability, aligning with the Third National Development Strategy’s goals.
Hessa Ali Al Malki, Director of the Statistical Training and Data Center, encouraged participants to think creatively, emphasizing that the competition aims to drive change in data science and influence policymaking. Michael Mansour, Microsoft’s Chief Learning Officer for EMEA, highlighted the vast opportunities data science presents and the importance of turning academic knowledge into real-world solutions.
Saud Matar Al Shammari, Director of NPC’s Statistical Operations Department, also introduced the NPC and its role in the event.
