illegally sheltering runaway domestic workers
The Search and Follow-up Department at the General Directorate of Passports arrested a number of individuals of African nationality for smuggling, harboring, and employing domestic workers illegally, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.
In an announcement on social media, the Ministry stated that it had received information about a house in which smuggling and illegal sheltering of workers was taking place. After obtaining the necessary permissions, a raid was conducted and 19 suspects, that included men and women, were arrested.
The Ministry further stated that the suspects confessed the violations, which include sheltering and covering up unlawful employment, violating the residency law, in addition to helping and harbouring runaway workers.
The arrested individuals were referred to the authorities for further legal proceedings in this regard.
Ministry of Interior urged public to refrain from dealing with runaway workers to avoid any legal accountability or exposure to various crimes.
