Qatar's Beach Volleyball Team
In its third appearance in the Olympic Games, Qatar's beach volleyball team are aiming high by claiming a new medal in the volleyball tournaments of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 that are scheduled to be held from 26 July to 11 August.
After grabbing the bronze medal in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the national team (Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan) is aiming to best represent Qatar in this major sporting event that includes the best teams in the world.
The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) stated that the team qualified directly for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 after its qualification was approved by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
The QVA expressed its confidence in the team's abilities to achieve outstanding results in this edition and that this qualification reflects the hard work and dedication exerted by the players and the technical staff, which represents a source of pride for the nation and football fans in Qatar.
Qatar's beach volleyball team has managed to bring great achievements since 2014, placing them at the forefront of the Arab and Asian classifications. The FIVB ranked the team among the top ten worldwide. They also won two gold medals during the Asian Games Jakarta Palembang 2018 and Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
The QVA has shown great interest in developing the sport by organizing international and regional tournaments, in addition to a series of local tournaments held throughout the season, which contributed to building a strong Qatari team that includes a number of teams, the best of which is the duo Younousse and Tijan who achieved many positive results in their careers.
Younousse and Tijan participated in many international and regional tournaments and achieved outstanding results, which led to them topping the international rankings before the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Qatar's volleyball team is the first Arab team in history to qualify for the Olympic final. This great achievement came thanks to the long-term plan developed by the QVA and the support given to Qatars sports by the countrys wise leadership.
President of the QVA and the West Asia Volleyball Association (WAVA) Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari expressed his happiness with the team's qualification for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
He praised the unlimited support that athletes in Qatar receive in general and the support for volleyball in particular with the goal of best representing Qatar's sports in various forums and achieving the best outcomes regionally, continentally and globally.
Al Kuwari also said that this qualification reflects the team's stability and its continued ability to excel internationally and continentally and that the Qatari team has a prominent position in the classification among international elite teams.
The President of the QVA praised Younousse and Tijan who managed to deliver great play and impressive results that enabled them to be in the best global positions.
Qualifying for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 was one of the key goals set by the QVA in coordination with parties responsible for the sport, Al Kuwari said.
Qatar's beach volleyball team is set to kick off its journey in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 facing Italy (Paolo Nicolai and Samuele Cottafava) on 28 July.
The team will play its second match on 29 July against Sweden (David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig), while the last match within Pool A will see Qatar facing Australia (Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher) on 1 August.
