During the first round of the 2023 Asian Cup group stage, Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) reported a total of 1,079,340 passengers on the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks from January 12 to January 16, 2024. Of this total, 1,040,973 passengers used the metro, and 38,367 used the tram.
High demand was observed on the opening day, with 234,862 passengers transported. Key stations such as Lusail QNB, DECC, Msheireb, and Legtaifiya experienced notable activity. Qatar Rail deployed its entire fleet of 110 modern trains, including 6-carriage trains on the Red Line, doubling capacity and maintaining a 3-minute headway between trains on all three lines.
The system's advanced monitoring and maintenance ensured efficiency, safety, and a world-class transport experience for football fans attending the Asian Cup matches. Qatar Rail encouraged fans to collect complimentary Day Passes in advance to enhance transportation efficiency.
The Doha Metro network directly connects to five out of nine Asian Cup stadiums, facilitating smooth fan movement between matches during the group stages. For stadiums not directly linked, a metro shuttle bus service is provided.
