Ooredoo announced that it will be equipping over 350 official FIFA event buses with WIFI for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The buses designated for players, match officials and media representatives will be armed with Ooredoo’s award-winning network and internet allowing them to stay connected while on the go.
Ooredoo- the Official Middle East & Africa Telecommunications Operator for Qatar 2022, will be using technology such as Quick Response Codes, ensuring quick and easy access to WIFI on the buses. Ooredoo said 300 buses will also have transportation-grade managed WiFi services. Using systems hosted in the Ooredoo Qatar Data Center, the WiFi services will be monitored and managed in real time.
Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, Chief Commercial Officer at Ooredoo expressed his excitement and pride in Ooredoo presenting the first-of-its-kind initiative for an event of such magnitude. “I believe it’s the first ever in the World Cup. We’re very proud to provide this kind of service and to enhance the experience of the organizers and players,” Sheikh Nasser said.
He continued by saying that Ooredoo partners with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy to guarantee that fans and visitors have the best possible internet connectivity and hinted at Ooredoo consumers getting special deals and offers before and during the World Cup.
Colin Smith, FIFA Chief Operating Officer World Cup and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Managing Director remarked that it was a new collaboration for FIFA in terms of installing WiFi across so many different services.
“It provides this connectivity for our key stakeholders throughout their journey and experience here in Qatar. Media, member associations, the teams, referees, media, and our guests will enjoy this end-to-end service from when they arrive in the country until they leave again,” he said.
