Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani

Doha, Qatar: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani stated that the proposal presented by U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday regarding Gaza contains principles that require further discussion on their details and implementation.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, the Prime Minister explained that the plan remains in its initial stages and needs further development and clarification, particularly with regard to the mechanisms for Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

He confirmed that Qatar had delivered President Trump’s proposal to the Hamas negotiating delegation during a meeting in Doha on Monday. He noted that Hamas responded responsibly, promising to study the plan carefully, but stressed that any final response must come through internal consensus among Palestinian factions. He urged all parties to approach the initiative constructively and seize the opportunity to end the ongoing conflict.

The Prime Minister underlined that Qatar’s main priority remains ending the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, including halting killings, displacement, and famine. He further highlighted the significant efforts of Arab and Islamic nations, including Egypt and Turkiye, to support Palestinians, preserve their right to remain on their land, and work toward a two-state solution. He added that these countries are ready to contribute further if the plan gains acceptance.

He clarified that when the proposal was received on Monday, following President Trump’s announcement, it was immediately shared with Hamas and discussed in general terms. However, he acknowledged that several points still lack clarity. Despite this, he expressed hope that stakeholders would consider the plan positively and build on the current momentum to achieve an end to the war.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, citing the absence of concrete details in the plan. Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of focusing on opportunities, particularly the shared objectives of ending the war, preventing displacement, and ensuring the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. He concluded by stressing that the people of Gaza must ultimately be responsible for managing their own affairs.
