Data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) revealed an increase in the Monthly Producer Price Index (PPI) of the industrial sector in the State of Qatar by 94.9% in July compared with July 2020, and rose by 6.6% when compared with June 2021. The PPI for July 2021 is estimated at 76.0 points.

The Producer Price Index covers goods relating to Mining (weight: 72.7%), Manufacturing (weight: 26.8%), and Electricity & Water (weight: 0.5%).

In the Mining sector, the PPI of July 2021 showed an increase by 6.9% when compared with PPI of June 2021, primarily due to the price increase of Crude petroleum and natural gas by 7.0%, while no change noticed in Stone, Sand and Clay. PPI of July 2021, when compared with its counterpart in previous year (July 2020), there was an increase of 115.1%.

Meanwhile, the Manufacturing sector showed an increase of 6.0% in July 2021, when compared with the previous months Manufacturing index (June 2021). The prices increase are seen in: Refined Petroleum products by 7.2%, followed by Basic Metals by 6.2%, Basic Chemicals by 4.3%, Paper and Paper products by 1.1%, Rubber and Plastics products by 0.7%, and Grain mill and Other products by 0.1%, However, the decreasing prices are noticed in Cement and Other non-metallic products by 1.4%, Dairy products by 2.9%, and Beverages by 0.2%. no change is noticed in Juices and Other chemical products and fibers.

Comparing with the index of counterpart in the previous year (July 2020), Manufacturing PPI of July 2021 showed an increase of 66.1%. The major groups which explain this price increase are: Basic chemicals by 94.8%, followed by Refined Petroleum products by 68.7%, Basic Metals by 51.8%, Paper and Paper Products by 16.6%, Rubber and Plastics products by 8.6%, Other chemical products and fibers by 1.8%, and Juices by 0.8%, However, prices fall in Cement and Other non-metallic products by 6.1%, followed by Grain mill and Other products by 1.3%, Beverages by 0.4%, and Dairy products by 0.2%.

In the Electricity and Water sector, the PPI showed a decrease of 0.9% compared to June 2021, resulting from prices fall in Water by 1.5%, and in Electricity by 0.4%. When compared the PPI of July 2021, to the PPI of July 2020 (Y-o-Y), showed an increase of 10.7%, affected by prices rise in Water by 11.9%, and in Electricity by 9.4%.
