Palestine national team
The Palestine national team landed in Doha yesterday afternoon ahead of their participation in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021™.
The Lions of Canaan are the first international team to arrive in Qatar for the tournament, which will be held from 30 November to 18 December.
Palestine beat Comoros 5-1 to qualify for the tournament and will compete in Group C against Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Their opening match will be against Morocco at Al Janoub Stadium on 1 December (kick-off 7 PM).
This is the first pan-Arab tournament to be held under the FIFA umbrella. Sixteen teams from across the region will compete for the title as Qatar fine-tunes its preparations for next year’s FIFA World Cup™. Matches will be held at six Qatar 2022 stadiums, including Al Bayt, Al Janoub, Ahmad Bin Ali, Education City, Al Thumama and Ras Abu Aboud. Al Bayt and Ras Abu Aboud will host competitive matches for the first time during the tournament.
Palestine Head Coach, Makram Daboub, said: “We are excited to be in Doha ahead of the FIFA Arab Cup. The players are looking forward to testing themselves against some of the best teams from our region. It will be an honour to train at exceptional facilities and play matches at World Cup stadiums. On behalf of the players and the entire Palestine delegation, I would like to thank Qatar for the very warm welcome.”
