Qatar Affirms its Support for International Efforts to Advance a Solution Through Dialogue

The State of Qatar affirmed its keenness to provide full and continuous support to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, help Yemenis to overcome the difficult circumstances that burden them, and support all international efforts aimed at advancing a solution through dialogue and achieving sustainable peace and development and improving the humanitarian situation in Yemen, in line with its policy to mitigate the effects of humanitarian crises.

This came in the State of Qatar's statement, delivered today at Palais des Nations in Geneva by HE Assistant Foreign Minister Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, in front of the high-level virtual event to announce donations to confront the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

In the statement, Her Excellency reviewed part of what the State of Qatar provided in the field of humanitarian aid, including priority sectors for needs in food security, health and capacity building.

Her Excellency added that given the importance of concerted efforts to meet food security needs in Yemen, in November 2021, Qatar Fund for Development signed an agreement with the World Food Program to provide a financial contribution of USD 90 million to help meet urgent food security needs in Yemen and avert the threat of famine, in addition to provide logistical support through the humanitarian air service, to transport volunteers and staff to and from and within Yemen

Her Excellency noted that Qatar Fund for Development is also working with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to support the water and sanitation sector in Yemen, which in turn will contribute to rehabilitating water networks, improving access to healthy drinking water, and limiting the spread of diseases through contaminated water.

Her Excellency stressed that in December 2020, Qatar Fund for Development signed an agreement with the United Nations Population Fund, with the amount of USD 5 million, to provide comprehensive health services to the most affected groups in 10 health facilities in Yemen, in addition to referring complex medical cases to Khalifa Hospital in Taiz Governorate.

Her Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar made in 2020 an in-kind donation of 7 tons of medical aid to Yemen through the World Health Organization, as part of efforts to respond to the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic.

HE Assistant Foreign Minister renewed the gratitude of the State of Qatar to all countries and entities that are working tirelessly to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen and help the brotherly Yemeni people achieve their aspirations, peace and stability and to get out of the crisis as a safe and prosperous country.

Her Excellency also expressed Qatar's high appreciation for the efforts undertaken by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, of which Qatar is at the forefront of supporting countries, in addition to international partners working in the humanitarian field.

Her Excellency said that these efforts are of particular importance in light of the urgent humanitarian needs that affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of the brotherly Yemeni people.

Her Excellency also expressed Qatar's thanks to HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, HE President of the Swiss Confederation and head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis, and HE Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Ann Linde, for co-hosting this event, which represents an important opportunity to strengthen international solidarity with the brotherly Yemeni people, and to mobilize resources to mitigate the negative effects of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
