Qatar Charity (QC) launched a new food aid convoy for 20,000 affected and displaced people in Lagawa, a district of South Kordofan state, Sudan, and surrounding areas.

The launch of the food convoy was attended by the Charge d'Affairs at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sudan Ali bin Jaber and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid in Sudan Dr. Najm Al-Din Musa.

The convoy, which came within the framework of the Urgent Response Project for Affected Families in Sudan, in cooperation with Islamic Relief Worldwide, contained 157 tons of food items (3,400 food packages) for the affected.

"Qatar Charity is doing great and honorable work in Sudan," said the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid in Sudan Dr. Najm Al Din Musa. He thanked Qatar Charity for its continuous assistance to address the critical humanitarian situations in conflict-affected areas in Blue Nile and West Kordofan.

He also applauded the humanitarian role of Qatar, indicating that its great preoccupation with organizing the World Cup these days did not distract it from its humanitarian duty to help people in Sudan. He also praised the efforts of Qatar Charity and Islamic Relief Worldwide in addressing humanitarian crises in the country.

The representative of Islamic Relief Worldwide Salah Muhammad Al Hassan said that this assistance for the affected comes as a continuation of a decade-long relationship between Islamic Relief and Qatar Charity. He explained that the project aims to reduce the burden on those affected by the conflicts in West Kordofan. He expressed his hope that cooperation between Qatar Charity and Islamic Relief Worldwide will continue to provide aid to all those in need in Kordofan and other regions of Sudan.

Qatar Charity has implemented, during the past three months, a series of relief interventions for those affected by the conflict and flood, as well as for the displaced, in Sudan where nearly 12,500 food packages (575 tons of food items) were distributed to the beneficiaries.
