The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) has announced the second edition of the Qatar Classic Chess Cup, scheduled from September 7 to 13 at the Qatar Training Center.
The tournament will be open exclusively to Qatari players, with separate competitions for men and women.
In the men’s category, International Master Hussein Aziz will lead the lineup alongside national talents such as Khaled Al-Jumaat, Irfan Mohammed, Ibrahim Al-Janahi, Fahad Al-Mansouri, Abdulaziz Al-Mahasneh, Turki Al-Kuwari, Mohammed Al-Qassabi, Hamad Al-Kuwari, and Saif Ahmed.
The women’s competition will feature prominent players including Rawda and Walian Al-Qassabi, Fatima and Asma Al-Hammadi, as well as Aisha and Ghada Al-Khulaifi.
QCA President Mohammed Al-Mudahka confirmed that preparations are complete and highlighted the strong interest from local players. He emphasized that the tournament plays a vital role in promoting chess nationwide and identifying talents to represent Qatar in regional and international events.
The Qatar Classic Chess Cup has now been added to QCA’s official annual calendar as part of its strategy to strengthen the chess community and nurture future national team members.
