Qatar's $2.3 Billion Contribution: A Global Boost for Education
H.E. Minister of Education and Higher Education, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, emphasized Qatar's dedication to global education support, stating that it is a top priority in the country's development agenda. She highlighted Qatar's significant commitment of up to $2.3 billion in aid to advance education globally through strategic partnerships.
This substantial support has facilitated access to quality learning opportunities for millions of students, resulting in tangible outcomes that empower young individuals to contribute positively to the development of their communities, according to Her Excellency.
These remarks were made during Her Excellency's participation in the High-Impact Initiative on Transforming Education, themed 'Learning to build a better future for all,' held on the sidelines of the 78th UNGA meetings in New York. H.E. Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, also attended the session.
H.E. Al Nuaimi underscored the importance of a collective commitment to providing quality education for everyone, emphasizing that education is a shared global interest and a fundamental driver for progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The session is part of ongoing efforts to bolster global initiatives aimed at expediting the achievement of SDG 4, which focuses on the quality of education, and to ensure the continued global momentum in monitoring the implementation of commitments made at the Transforming Education Summit (TES), advocated by H.E. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the previous UNGA. This summit aims to prioritize education on the global political agenda.
The initiatives program encompassed various sessions, including discussions on countries' experiences with education transformation agendas, reformation of education financing, presentation of initiatives for more substantial, efficient, and equitable investments, and the exchange of insights from youth and students regarding their countries' experiences.
The State of Qatar is one of the five leading countries spearheading the education transformation process, having been chosen at the invitation of H.E. the UN Secretary-General during TES 2022. This selection underscores Qatar's deep commitment to supporting education both nationally and internationally.
