Qatar Emphasizes The Necessity Of United Endeavors For A Gaza Ceasefire

Qatar calls for collective action to secure a Gaza ceasefire.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official spokesperson emphasized the need for collective action from the international community to achieve successful mediation in Gaza and an urgent ceasefire to prevent further human suffering.

Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Al Ansari, the spokesperson, highlighted the importance of active and effective mediation between both conflicting sides, warning that without this united effort, there would likely be more atrocities and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

During a media briefing, he condemned the bombing of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza's headquarters by Israeli occupying forces as a clear violation of international law. This action represents a continuation of the occupation forces' pattern of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, which includes hospitals, schools, residential areas, and shelters for displaced individuals.

He urgently appealed to the international community to hold Israel accountable for its repeated violations against civilians and civilian sites, urging compliance with international laws. When asked about the effectiveness of Qatari mediation efforts, he expressed concern that the deteriorating situation, marked by bombings of civilian sites and hospitals, was eroding trust between the conflicting parties and complicating matters.

Stating that mediation remains the sole viable option between both sides, he expressed hope despite acknowledging challenges. While citing some positive developments like the release of four hostages and brief periods of calm daily, he stressed that these were insufficient in addressing the overall situation.
He mentioned that the bombing of the committee’s headquarters is a continuation of the policy of targeting civilians. He highlighted the committee’s efforts in easing the suffering of the Gaza Strip population, under prolonged siege and ongoing aggression.

The official spokesperson commended the response from various countries and international organizations, especially Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), GCC Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, and the General Assembly of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, for condemning the bombing of the committee’s headquarters.

Al Ansari cautioned against a potential new tragedy at the Al Shifa Medical Complex due to Israeli actions targeting its surroundings and outpatient clinics, hinting at a possible attack on the complex. He highlighted that approximately 60,000 displaced individuals, medical staff, and injured people have sought refuge there. He reiterated Qatar's commitment to providing aid, mentioning that around 10 Qatari aid planes carrying over 358 tonnes of aid had reached the Egyptian city of Al Arish. Additionally, two Qatari military planes are en route to Al Arish with 54 tonnes of aid, including a field hospital, shelter supplies, and medical and food materials, sponsored by the Qatar Fund for Development, the Qatar Red Crescent, and Qatar Charity, intended for Gaza. Al Ansari emphasized that this aid reflects Qatar’s ongoing support for the Palestinians during the severe humanitarian crisis caused by Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip.
