Arab High-Level Conference
The State of Qatar participated in the 6th Arab High-Level Conference on the Rights of the Child, which was held under the motto of an effective and sustainable developmental investment guaranteeing the rights of the Arab child, with the participation of ministers and heads of national mechanisms concerned with childhood affairs in Member States, and relevant regional and international organizations.
The virtual conference sought to shed light on the 2030 Child Development Agenda, as the sustainable development plan represents an opportunity to address the main development challenges in the Arab world with the aim of promoting the rights of all children.
In his speech during the conference, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Mubarak Ghanem Al Kuwari said that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to the protection and promotion of children's rights, setting it as a priority in its development plan, which relies primarily on investing in human capital.
He also stressed the State of Qatar's keenness on providing the necessary facilities and the appropriate healthy environment for a good upbringing for all children on its territory, noting that the state is keen on the complementarity of the protection and care programs provided to children with legislation guaranteeing children's rights.
Al Kuwari added that the Ministry of Social Development and Family operates through its specialized departments and supervised centers that provide social security services, especially for the most vulnerable groups, the most important of which are children.
He highlighted the role of social security networks in meeting the necessary protection, support, and rights for children that are universally recognized such as health, education, and psychological well-being.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Social Affairs also pointed out that social security programs and networks dedicated to children contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development, particularly those related to reducing poverty, improving children's lives and providing them with basic needs and educational opportunities in order to improve their chances of future success.
Al Kuwari pointed out that the Ministry of Social Development and Family offers an array of social programs protecting children and enhancing their well-being, including community awareness and educational programs on children's rights, in addition to offering psychological and social support programs for those facing challenges within the family unit, in addition to offering comprehensive care programs through specialized centers dedicated to children with disabilities.
At the end of his speech, he reiterated the State of Qatar's continuing efforts in protecting the rights of children, and ensuring their upbringing in a safe, healthy, clean, and sustainable environment as a top priority in all plans and policies.
In turn, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector of the Arab League Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazala highlighted the importance and objectives of this conference, adding that the conference's outputs will contribute to developing a road map for planning and implementing public policy on children affairs taking into account sustainable development.
