Dr Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah
The State of Qatar has reiterated its unequivocal rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their homeland, recalling the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on July 19, 2024.
Qatar also urged the international community to take decisive action to end the Israeli occupation, safeguard the Palestinian people, implement the two-state solution, and recognize the State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This statement was delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, during the Item 2: Interactive Dialogue on the report of the High Commissioner regarding the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the obligation to ensure accountability and justice, as part of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Her Excellency emphasized that the grave humanitarian crisis afflicting the Palestinian people, along with the systematic and egregious violations committed by Israel as the occupying power, cannot be justified under the pretext of self-defense. These violations have persisted for more than seven decades, and it is neither fair nor acceptable to equate the aggressor with the victim, she stressed.
HE Al Muftah further highlighted that Israel’s continued impunity and defiance of international law embolden it to persist in committing atrocities and violations across the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. These include collective punishment, starvation, widespread destruction of critical infrastructure, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and ongoing settlement expansion.
Additionally, she condemned Israeli efforts to alter the demographic and cultural identity of Jerusalem through forced displacement and the Judaization of the city. In light of these grave violations and the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe, the State of Qatar calls on the international community to abandon double standards, intensify pressure on Israel, and take all necessary measures to ensure its compliance with international law. Qatar also demands accountability for all those responsible for crimes and violations against the Palestinian people.
