The State of Qatar stressed today its commitment to fighting climate change, saying the country has focused on addressing the issue in the framework of its 2030 national vision, making it one of the four main pillars. The State of Qatar also noted that it adopted several measures to conserve the environment and natural resources, in addition to carrying out several projects that lower Carbon Dioxide emissions and rely on renewable energy resources.

This came during the State of Qatars statement read by Salem Jaber Al Harami, who is a researcher in the field of international relations at the office of the Assistant Foreign Minister, during an interactive dialogue with Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change at the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council on article three of the councils agenda He noted that Qatar organized Qatar Climate Change Conference 2021 in September, which addressed many policies related to fighting climate change. He highlighted that Qatar is committed to international cooperation in the field of conserving the environment, evident by its pledge to assist small developing island states and the least developed states in facing climate change.

He added that the State of Qatar is keeping a keen eye, as part of the priorities determined by the Special Rapporteur, the impact climate technologies are having on human rights. He said that Qatars hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at the end of this year will see the introduction of a few climate technology applications that will make the edition the first Carbon-neutral World Cup.
