The State of Qatar was selected to chair the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity during the 14th session of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity and the 37th meeting of the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity held in Doha, on the sidelines of the 7th General Conference of the Arab Union of Electricity.

The selection was the culmination of the major efforts made by the State of Qatar to raise the levels of coordination and joint Arab action in the electric power sector and the great keenness to support efforts to achieve complete Arab integration into the electricity sector, the latest of which was Qatar's hosting of the 7th General Conference of the Arab Union of Electricity and its accompanying exhibition, which was held jointly with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) and QatarEnergy.

HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Member States of the Executive Office on confidence given to Qatar, saying that this mandate is a dear trust and a great responsibility that Qatar will work to bear, in order to develop the work of the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity with the aim of achieving the desired qualitative shift in the way towards achieving and strengthening energy security for all Arab countries, as well as to work on the development of the electricity sector in the Arab homeland to ensure a prosperous future for all peoples.

HE added that the State of Qatar, in accordance with the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, attaches great importance to building a unified Arab strategy in the energy sector in general, especially in light of the major challenges facing the Arab energy sector due to the high demand and various development requirements. Therefore, through its chairmanship of the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, and in cooperation with all brothers, the State of Qatar will work to activate joint coordination and raise the levels of cooperation between Member States towards a better future, HE added.

In a related context, HE KAHRAMAA President Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari stressed the depth of Arab relations and the critical importance of deepening the role of partnership in the electricity sector at various levels, adding that this responsibility prompts to intensify efforts to activate Arab cooperation relations, as there are serious challenges facing the electricity sector in the region and the close relationship between the reality of the electric power sector and its systems and various aspects of development at all economic and social levels.

A consultative meeting was held ahead of the 14th session of the Ministerial Council, through which members of the Executive Office were selected so as the Troika Summit countries include the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Tunisian Republic and the Algerian People's Democratic Republic. Three other Arab countries were included in the alphabetical order. During the subsequent session, Qatar was selected to chair the Executive Office and the Arab Republic of Egypt as vice-chair.
