Acting Director General of Traffic Brigadier Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al Thani has affirmed that Qatar is one of the leading countries in the field of traffic safety, in light of its achievements in road safety indicators.
In a press statement on Wednesday on the occasion of the conclusion of the Arab Traffic Week, the Director General of Traffic said the designated authorities in the traffic system have taken many steps and measures during the past years in the field of achieving traffic safety on the roads, and strengthening, drawing up and developing traffic policies, which resulted in a decrease in the rates of accidents and traffic violations, and a decrease in the number of accident deaths and severe injuries resulting from such accidents.
He considered that the results achieved have made Qatar one of the leading countries in the world in the field of traffic safety management, and has become at the forefront of countries in the region.
It still has a lot to accomplish and achieve positive results in this regard, stressing the continuation of the General Directorate of Traffic and its cooperation with the designated authorities in the country in implementing many projects that will raise the efficiency of the traffic system, and reducing the causes of accidents, by keeping pace with best practices, applications and international standards.
In this context, Brigadier General Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al Thani referred to the development and improvement of road quality, monitoring and evaluation, speed of response, services, smart systems, traffic awareness campaigns, and finding innovative solutions to reduce road accidents and reduce deaths and injuries resulting from them, by working to change traffic behavior among all members of society, and provide them with correct traffic information, to ensure their safety and protect them from road hazards.
Regarding the Arab Traffic Week, which was organized during the period from May 4 to 10, under the theme "Traffic Rules are Civilized Behavior", he affirmed the directorate's keenness to celebrate this occasion annually, emphasizing the importance of strengthening efforts to achieve the highest levels of security and safety on the roads by communicating with all segments of society with the aim of establishing traffic safety requirements.
He added that the Arab Traffic Week is an occasion to educate and raise the awareness of the public on the importance of adhering to the traffic law and etiquette, to remind the importance of concerted efforts and joint responsibility to reduce traffic accidents, and to draw attention to the dangers of road accidents.
