The State of Qatar participated Wednesday in the 23rd session of the Conference of Ministers Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World, which is hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).Â
The conference is held in cooperation with the ministries of culture in the Arab region, in the presence of a host of culture ministers, representatives of the ministries of culture in the Arab world, along with representatives of the Arab League and regional and international organizations.Â
HE Advisor to the Minister of Culture Faleh Al Ajlan Al Hajri headed the delegation of the State of Qatar to the ministerial conference which addressed the key topic "Culture and the Green Future" with the objective of making the cultural sector more sustainable.Â
In his inaugural speech, Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, who is chairman of the 23rd Conference, confirmed that the empowerment of culture toward the green future will contribute to consolidating the culture in the global development discussion.Â
During the conference, Their Highnesses and Excellencies, ministers responsible for the cultural affairs in the Arab world stressed the importance of giving new impetus to the role of culture in achieving sustainable development and working to develop effective policies for the sectors that achieve the added value in the collective efforts that aim to achieve transition toward more sustainable and innovative future.Â
In addition, the conference discussed the ways of utilizing the power of culture in increasing awareness of the challenges imposed by climate change, countering the long-term and multi-faceted crises associated with the grave consequences of global warming, biodiversity loss, urban expansion, and unsustainable development, in addition to the mechanisms of promoting the cultural unity of the Arab nation through building inclusive and pluralistic knowledge communities, enhancing the openness of the Arab culture to the world's cultures, supporting the bonds with the humanitarian cultures, and the effective contribution to formulating the humanitarian and civilized project within the framework of values difference and diversity by focusing on the privacies of the Arab culture which is abound with civilization, heritage, and history.Â
The event also discussed a myriad of joint cultural action projects that would contribute to achieving cultural integration among the Arab states and ratified the recommendations laid out by the Permanent Committee for Arab Culture that convened in Riyadh last Monday, in addition to discussing the reports on the follow-up on the implementation of 22nd session of the Conference of Ministers Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World that convened in UAE.
