Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex
Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation (QTSBF) yesterday announced it won the right to host the 2022 World Padel Championships to be held from October 31 to November 5 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
It will be second year in a row that Doha will host the prestigious event, featuring top male and female players.
The men’s competition will witness the participation of 38 teams, 10 of which qualified directly, including hosts Qatar. The women’s competition will see participation of 34 teams, of which 10 have qualified directly, led by standing leaders Spain.
Qatar hosted the Padel World Championship for the first time in the Middle East and Asia last year after it was held in Latin America and Europe.
QTSBF President Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi said: “We are very proud that Qatar has won the honour of organising the 2022 World Championships for men and women for second year in a row, which reflects the confidence of the International Federation of the game in Qatar’s capability in organising major tournaments and sporting events.”
“The distinguished global position that Qatar enjoys in the sports field did not come by chance but came as a result of the unlimited support of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for sports in the country and the state’s confidence in its people and their capabilities to achieve the desired success,” Al Khelaifi added.
The President added that QTSBF has all the logistical, human and administrative capabilities to present an exceptional version of the World Padel Championship.
For his part, QTSBF Secretary-General Tariq Zainal expressed his delight on winning the hosting right for the second successive year, hoping to deliver amazing world championships later this year.
