Asian champions Qatar will play two friendly home matches against Bulgaria and Slovenia next month as part of preparations for their debut FIFA World Cup appearance at home, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced on Wednesday.  Â
The Felix Sanchez-coached side will meet Bulgaria on March 26 before meeting Slovenia on March 29. The venues are yet to be announced.
Besides Al Annabi’s games, Qatar will also host Croatia’s friendly matches against Slovenia (March 26) and Bulgaria (March 29).
Qatar, who will defend their Asian Cup title in China next year is ranked 48th in the FIFA World Rankings. Slovenia is 65th while Bulgaria is placed 71st in the standings.
Al Annabi players are currently featuring for their respective clubs at the QNB Stars League (QSL), which is in its 17th round and is heading towards an end. Â
Qatar’s previous international assignment was the FIFA Arab Cup, which was played in November December last year. Al Annabi reached the semi-final of the regional event before finishing third after a victory over Egypt in the play-off. Algeria won the tournament after defeating Tunisia in the final.
