QatarEnergy Signs 20-Year Helium Supply Agreement with China’s G-Gas

Doha, Qatar – QatarEnergy has signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Guangzhou Guanggang Gases & Energy Co. Ltd (G-Gas) for the annual supply of 100 million cubic feet of helium to China.

The 20-year deal marks the first direct, long-term helium supply agreement between Qatar and China. The high-purity helium will be sourced from Qatar’s state-of-the-art helium production facilities in Ras Laffan, reinforcing the country’s position as one of the world’s top helium exporters.

The signing ceremony, held at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, was attended by His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy, alongside senior executives from both QatarEnergy and G-Gas.

Welcoming the agreement, Minister Al-Kaabi stated: "China is a key market for Qatari helium, and we are pleased to establish this direct long-term partnership with G-Gas as we support the growing global demand for helium."

He further highlighted QatarEnergy’s expanding role in the global helium market, noting that the country’s helium production capacity will more than double with the upcoming North Field LNG expansion projects. "This agreement strengthens our network of global partnerships and will further support industries reliant on helium, ranging from scientific research and medical technology to high-tech manufacturing and space exploration," he added.

Helium plays a vital role in various advanced industries, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, semiconductors, specialized welding, deep-sea diving, and industrial cooling applications. Qatar’s high-quality helium is widely used across these sectors, reinforcing its importance in global supply chains.

G-Gas, a leading industrial gases company in China with over 50 years of experience, specializes in air separation technology, gas storage, distribution, and advanced gas application solutions. This agreement strengthens China’s access to a reliable helium supply while reinforcing Qatar’s position as a strategic supplier of critical industrial gases.
