Qatari men's beach volleyball team
The Qatari men's beach volleyball team, consisting of the duo Cherif Younis and Ahmed Tijan, qualified Friday for the second round in the Czech Ostrava round, one of the Elite16 rounds, which is organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for the men's and women's categories.
The Qatari team qualified after defeating Brazilian counterparts, Evandro Junior, and Arthur Lancey, in two games to zero, 21-18 and 26-24, at the end of the third round matches.
The Qatari team came in third place in the third group, behind the Norwegian team (leader) and the Brazilian team in second place, while the French team came in fourth and final place.
The team will meet in the second round with their American counterparts.
The Qatari duo lost their opening match to Norway, 13-21, 21-18, and 9-15.
They won in the second round against the French duo Youssef Crowe, and Arnaud Gauthier.
The Qatari team ranked 15th in the world rankings recently issued by the International Federation of the Game, collecting 5,800 points from latest participation in world championships and tours during the last period.
The Swedish duo (David Ahlmann and Jonathan Helwig) top the world rankings with 8,140 points, followed in second place by the Brazilian duo (George and Andre) with 7,640 points.
