The Qatari International Search and Rescue Team has successfully achieved the Heavy international classification granted by the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The reclassification process began on Tuesday with a field test simulating a natural disaster, lasting 36 continuous hours. The test involved carrying out tasks that mirror disaster scenarios, adhering to the international standards set by INSARAG.

The results of the field test were announced in the presence of HE Major General Mohammed Mesfer Al Shahwani, Deputy Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), along with his assistants, group leaders, and officers.

Recently, INSARAG, a United Nations body, approved the reclassification application submitted by the Qatari team, which previously received the classification in 2015. This is the highest classification awarded to search and rescue teams.

The reclassification aims to ensure continued alignment with INSARAG guidelines, leveraging United Nations resources for information and coordination with affected countries in the absence of embassies or during crises.
