Two Qatari officials have been elected to key committees within the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
Jassim Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, won a seat on the IWF's Development and Education Committee. Khalid Nabina, Assistant Secretary-General of the Qatar federation, was elected to the IWF's Governance Committee. Both will serve terms from 2025 to 2029.
The elections took place during the IWF Electoral Congress in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The congress also saw Iraq's Mohammed Hassan Jalood Al Shammari re-elected as IWF President for a second term after his opponents withdrew.
HE Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, IWF Vice President, and president of the Qatari, Arab, Asian, and Afro-Asian federations, expressed immense pride in the presence of two Qatari officials on IWF committees.
He emphasized that the selection of Qatari competencies demonstrates significant international trust in Qatar's leadership and its ambitious vision for developing weightlifting at all levels.
Al Mana lauded Saudi Arabia's excellent organization of the General Assembly, noting that Qatar's strong presence reflects its increasing role in international sports decision-making.
Al Mansouri conveyed his happiness with the international confidence placed in him. He affirmed his commitment to developing advanced training programs focusing on the latest techniques, anti-doping awareness, and initiatives supporting the global growth of weightlifting.
Al Mansouri highlighted that his representation on the Development and Education Committee will facilitate the transfer of Qatari expertise and knowledge exchange.
Nabina underscored the significant responsibility of his membership on the Governance Committee, stressing that sound governance is the fundamental pillar for the sport's sustainability and enhancing the trust of the global sports community.
