Samsung to Add New Chip Production Line in South Korea

Seoul, November 16 (QNA) - Samsung Electronics announced Sunday that it will add a new semiconductor production line at its "P5" plant in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, to meet surging demand driven by the global boom in artificial intelligence.

The company said in a statement that the line is expected to be fully operational in 2028 and that it also plans further infrastructure investments to support expanded operations.

A Samsung spokesperson noted that the new facility, which will produce memory chips, is designed to serve both traditional servers and AI servers.

Semiconductor prices have risen sharply, the spokesperson added, as global manufacturers shift capacity toward AI chips, reducing supply for smartphones, personal computers and conventional servers.

Samsung Electronics said it anticipates medium- to long-term growth in demand for memory semiconductors as the AI era takes hold worldwide. To respond quickly to market shifts, the company intends to secure production lines in advance.
