Sea Turtle Found Dead After Entanglement in Abandoned Fishing Nets

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has confirmed the death of a sea turtle discovered today entangled in discarded fishing nets in open waters.

The incident was documented by the Ministry’s Marine Protection Department as part of its broader mission to safeguard marine ecosystems and wildlife in Qatar.

According to the Ministry, the turtle’s death was caused by suffocation after becoming trapped in nets that had been irresponsibly left behind at sea.

In light of the event, the Ministry has once again called on fishermen and marine enthusiasts to prioritize environmental stewardship. Authorities stress the necessity of retrieving all fishing gear after use and conducting proper checks to ensure that no nets or equipment are left behind, a key measure in protecting marine biodiversity and preventing such tragedies.
