Judo Students
Students from Tariq Bin Ziad School, Tunisian School, Oxford English School, and Doha English Speaking School received an introduction to judo from judokas, trainers, and officials of the World Judo Championships – Doha 2023.
During the visit, staff from Qatar Olympic Committee and three Judokas taught students about the highest scores in judo, such as waza-ari and ippon, and showed them how to perform elementary Judo moves.
Abdulhadi Almarri, Marketing, Communication, Opening & Closing Ceremonies Committee Director for the World Judo Championships – Doha 2023, said: “Qatar has a proud record of hosting major sporting events, and these school visits are an ideal way to attract and inspire Judo champions of the future.”
Among the students attending was Saif Hamad Al-Malki, who enjoyed learning some judo moves. He said: “Our Judo experience was so much fun. The trainers showed us some moves, and we all enjoyed it a lot.” Rashid Saeed Al Yarboui also found the visit informative, saying: “The judo session taught me that we must always show respect. We can win by using our minds, not just our muscles.”
The World Judo Championships – Doha 2023 will be held at the state-of-the-art Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, beginning on May 7. Tickets for the event can be purchased on https://judodoha2023.com/.
