Director: Kelsey Mann
Cast: Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Amy Poehler
Surprisingly, this Pixar sequel topped our poll by a considerable margin. While the original Inside Out is a beloved, Oscar-winning favourite, that’s not an unusual status for a Pixar film. This time, Amy Poehler returns to lead a strong voice cast, including Maya Hawke, Ayo Edibiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser, who will voice new emotions emerging in a now-teenage Riley.
Release Date: June 28, 2024
Director: Michael Sarnoski
Cast: Joseph Quinn, Lupita Nyong'o, Djimon Hounsou
This prequel to the acclaimed A Quiet Place series. While the first two films are set long after the sound-sensitive creatures have decimated the planet, this installment explores the early days of the invasion. It follows Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) as she struggles to survive when the creatures first arrive in New York City. Michael Sarnoski, known for 2021’s Pig, takes over directing from John Krasinski.
Release Date: June 7, 2024
Director: Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah
Cast: Will Smith, Vanessa Hudgens, Martin LawrenceÂ
Though Inside Out 2 and A Quiet Place: Day One led the votes this month, the fourth Bad Boys film secured the next spot, showing that the franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence remains popular. This time, Mike and Marcus are on the run after the death of their former captain (Joe Pantoliano) drives them to investigate corruption within the Miami police department.
Release Date: June 21, 2024
Director: Yorgos Lanthimos
Cast: Emma Stone, Joe Alwyn
Trailing just behind Bad Boys is the latest project from writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone. Their last collaboration, Poor Things, won four Oscars, including Best Actress for Stone. Kinds of Kindness is potentially even more challenging, featuring three loosely connected stories with a cast that includes Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley, among others, each playing different characters in each segment.
Release Date: June 21, 2024
Director: Yorgos Lanthimos
Cast: Glen Powell, Joe Alwyn
Lastly, we have this romantic crime comedy from Richard Linklater, starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona. Based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article, the film follows a New Orleans police officer who poses as a hitman to catch those seeking his services. Complications arise when he falls for a woman who hires him to kill her abusive husband. After debuting in theatres in late May, the film hits Netflix on June 7.
